Experience the jungle calling with the inaugural La Ruta Trail race where you will traverse breathtaking natural terrain of beautiful sand beaches, tropical forests and jungles that house hundreds of different species of flora and fauna in one of the most biodiverse regions of Costa Rica. Test your senses and endurance as you run up steep gradients in mountainous terrains with tough ascents and descents and reaching breathtaking views. The relationship between distance and elevation changes all work together to create the overall level of difficulty in La Ruta Trail.

This difficult course starts right on the beach and then it climbs up to the highest mountains in the Garabito area traversing through private farms and public trails circling the Carara National Park; rich in biodiversity and housing approximately 48% of Costa Rica´s bird species in its Transitional forest. After steep technical ascents and descents through varied types of terrain this hard trail finishes back on the beautiful bay of Herradura Beach.

Starting at sea level in front of the race venue the demanding 50K trail continues over a steep mountain with a 400 mts ascent through very isolated forests reaching summits that offer breathtaking views of the ocean and the jungle below and traversing private farms around Cerro Herradura. This trail reaches the highest point of the race at 700 mts above sea level before descending towards the lovely blue waters of the bay of Herradura onto the race finish on the beach.

The trail will consist of smaller dirt trails reaching the top of a 275 mts mountain with an amazing view of the Pacific Ocean and the Transitional Forest below. La Ruta Trail will cross through a local village area towards the Caña Blanca creek and later finishes on the beautiful beach of Herradura.

Designed to introduce racers to the Trail running competition experience, this trail provides racers with constant course surface changes; sand, grass, dirt, rocks and roots and passes through mild elevation changes.The 10K Trail run starts right on the beach, crosses the golf course and follows the banks of the Caña Blanca creek. Later the trail climbs to an elevation of 103 meters descending again to sea level and the race finish line at the beautiful beach of Herradura.
